Dura Tile Installation Guide

 

• Dura Tile decking tiles are suitable for use in most fully exposed exterior situations including locations subject to extreme weather conditions – rain, snow, ice or direct sunlight.

 

• Dura Tiles tiles can be laid over practically any flat, firm surface concrete, asphalt, bricks, pavers etc. Tiles are not secured or bonded to the surface in any way, but are held in position by inbuilt interconnecting tabs, the weight of the tiles, friction and any posts or boundary walls.

 

• Dura Tiles tiles can normally be installed directly over torch down or rubberised rooftop surfaces or waterproof membranes without causing damage to the membrane. If additional protection is required, we recommend installing the tiles over an EPDM underlay.

 

• Dura Tiles tiles can be used to span joists or bearers provided the joists or bearers are laid at 12” centers and the tile joins are located directly on the bearers.

 

• Dura Tiles tiles are not designed for use with adjustable pedestal leveling devices.

 

• Although each tile is engineered to support over 2 tons weight, Dura Tiles tiles should not be installed in vehicle car parks, garages etc. where motor vehicles or other heavy vehicles are liable to pass over them.

 

• Excessively rough or cracked surfaces may require patching or leveling to avoid “rocking” of the tiles.

 

• Surfaces should slope slightly to allow water to drain under the tiles.

 

• Whilst it is possible to install Dura Tile tiles over bare ground, better results are always obtained if they are laid over a more solid surface such as concrete. If laying over bare ground, the surface should be well compacted, all vegetation removed, levelled, made as smooth as possible and with a slight slope for drainage. A weed control mat should also be laid down before the tiles are installed.

 

• Due care should be taken in regions prone to storms or exceptionally strong winds. If necessary, the tiles can be taken up and reinstalled after any danger has passed. Alternatively, the outer row of tiles can be secured to the base surface with screws or other fixing devices.

 

• Local authorities and /or building owners should always be consulted before installing Dura Tile tiles to ensure the installation complies with any local codes. Installation

 

Start by placing the first tile in one corner of the area to be covered (normally one of the outer corners). Take a second tile and align the inbuilt connecting tabs on one edge of this tile with the matching connectors on the edge of the first tile.

 

Push down smartly on the second tile to engage the connectors and lock both tiles into position. Continue laying the tiles in this manner, working in an expanding triangular pattern.

 

As the tiles are self aligning and fully interlocking, it’s not necessary to lay out grid lines, insert spacers or constantly check spacing between the tiles as with conventional tile products. If you wish to change the orientation of any tile or change the overall design at any time, individual tiles may be lifted up as required without disrupting adjacent tiles.

 

To fit around pipes or posts, the tiles can be cut with a handsaw or jigsaw, cutting through both the wood and the plastic base, taking care to avoid any screws in the slats. If tiles are cut, it may be necessary to insert additional screws to ensure each wood slat is attached by at least two screws.

Care & Maintenance

 

The colour of Dura Tile decking tiles will fade by about 10% in the first few months of exposure to direct sunlight. After this initial fading, there will normally be little noticeable colour change.

 

For day to day cleaning, loose dirt may be removed with a stiff brush and water if necessary. Leaves or other debris falling between the wood slats can be removed by vacuuming. Individual tiles may be lifted for cleaning underneath if required.
